Summary

Now that the UK has left the European Union and the transition period is scheduled to end on December 31, 2020, everyone involved in the UK freight transportation sector needs to prepare for the new realities of life outside Europe. What will the new trading environment mean for ferry/short-sea operators, road haulage, ports, freight forwarders and cargo owners?

Lloyd’s Loading List, in association with Lloyd’s List and the Institute of Export and International Trade (IEIT), will present a webinar on October 28 to discuss the challenges faced by the freight ecosystem and seek to provide advice on preparations that must be made in anticipation of the end of the transition period.

Topics covered will include:

  • The impact Brexit will have on customs clearances
  • What new border infrastructure will be required?
  • What uncertainties remain and how can they be mitigated?
  • New procedures that will need to be followed
  • Industry best practice and what good preparation will look like
  • How can the freight sector manage risk and liability?
Panellists:
  • James Baker, Lloyd's List, Containers Editor (moderator)
  • Kevin Shakespeare, Trade Director, Institute of Export and International Trade
  • Martin Meacock, Director, Product Management, Descartes Systems UK Ltd
  • Stephen Carr, Commercial Director, Peel Ports
